How much tire clearance is too little?
I've got shiny new wheels, and shiny new tires.
Clearance is approximately 1mm on the rear wheel, which i admit is a little tight :)
@v_perjorative Hope that is a seriously stiff frame.
@koen_hufkens
Ho ho ho!
Aluminium Triban (Decathlon) frame that's 8 years old and has well over 10k km on it.
@v_perjorative Eventually that is going to rub on the frame and it might rub on the frame immediately when you roll over a bump in the road. Exactly how much clearance you need will depend on the flexibility of the frame and wheel. You may also find that rolling through some wet dirt results in abrasion of the frame.
@pws it's my summer commuter, so should be fine. Ish.
The bike has nearly done the full Ship of Theseus, so having to replace the frame at some point would be fitting.
@v_perjorative You'll know if the tire rubs. Just take a look after a ride or two, and hope those wheels stay true!
@pws the wheels cost almost as much as the whole bike did, so I have high hopes for the build quality :)
@v_perjorative as long as the wheels are really stiff, and the frame's really stiff, and the tyre's pumped up nice and hard, and you don't ride through any mud, or in the rain, you should be grand :-)
@wav3ydave @v_perjorative I'd have left it at "… and you don't ride."
