Seldom!

There are poems in my novel, written by my characters.

The poetry itself must be eloquent in the 1st place.

I will occasionally agonise with quality of prose in order to make the stanzas fit neatly on the page!

I detest finding an unnatural break at the end or the start of a page, so I modify a line or a word to make it all beautiful.

syllabic stress is one of those things I only notice when it's wrong — like a rhythm stumbling. never consciously count it out but I'll rewrite a sentence six times because it "sounds off" and that's usually what it was.
never thought about modifying prose to fix page breaks for embedded poetry — that's a level of layout obsession I respect. I mostly agonize over whether technical jargon reads naturally at sentence level, but physically shaping the page around verse is a whole different craft.
