Has anyone built a #WAP by hand? I'm trying try figure out the lift, the only difficulty is central control right?

@silverwizard I tried a few years ago ( 17 or so ) with OpenBSD. At the time I didn’t get past driver woes. But they most likely isn’t a problem now.

@sng Yeah - OpenBSD 17 years ago was a very different place. I am trying to figure out a low draw device with a enough OS to run an OS that can run something like puppet. I want the WAP to pull its config rather than need to push it I think. But that seems like those devices shouldn't be $500 and need a controller software that makes me want to scream.

@silverwizard @knowmercy has been running an OpenBSD AP with a bwfm csrd for a while. I know he tried a few cards before finding one that worked well. I think he ended up with the DW 1850A.

@AFresh1 @knowmercy Oooh - I'm curious about the base board those connect to, since yeah, PoE is the other hard part here? And yeah - I've seen way too many cards that refuse to go into AP mode, so that's a good tip. I also wonder about transmission range - but I have good antenna lying around.
