i really hope 40 years from now people will look at banning kids from social media the way people now look at the satanic panic of the 80s

@eniko I gotta disagree on this one. Banning isn't going to work, but they actually have identified a real problems this time. It's just an ineffective and harmful solution.

The real solution is to sue these companies into the ground for their harmful practises they know they are committing. They know they are harming many people, not just kids.

The post mortem on Facebook during the Rohingya genocide, and the willfully ignorant response from Facebook is enough to deserve their end.

@theeclecticdyslexic so we agree. the solution isn't to cut kids off from the rest of society, the solution is to legislate the platforms
@eniko Yes, we do. The part we don't agree on it being the same as the satanic panic. The satanic panic didn't have any truth behind it. This does.

@eniko

Yeah, this is more like a bunch of megacorps whose business model is to turn people into satanists, and for some reason people see it as affecting only children when it's a society-wide problem (assuming in this scenario that satanism was actually bad)

@theeclecticdyslexic

@theeclecticdyslexic @eniko revoke their corporate charters. Just dissolve the companies, then prosecute the directors as individuals, with no corporate lawyers or war chests to rely on.
