As usual I'll give this handy information out for free:

If you are a cis man (white and larger than the person you're talking to especially) - Resist any urge you may have to get up close and start a conversation by saying "have you been a good girl?" And then offering to "lift me up".

Big love to ✨️Trader tables(tm)✨️ for Doing Lords Work by separating the traders from the creeps by at least an arms length

@JenJen Nope! Nope nope nope

@mindpersephone I absolutely stonewalled him, like: "No."

And he was like "ah bad girls have more fun"

Hahhahah I wonder if that shit ever works on anyone

@JenJen Good. Clearly not a smart human, if he's tried it more than once he should have been able to learn a pattern.

@JenJen Oh FFS!!! What is wrong with these people 🤬

Men. Do. Better. It’s really not that difficult 😔

@JenJen What the fox?!

@neil you'd be surprised how some men lose the ability to be respectful the moment they realise *I'm* the person who paints the tentacle porn and I'm not a table helper.

It's not really even about the words said - it's the tone and vibe that's Yikes. I've had men say "I love your work" in a creepy af way

@JenJen

This is very reminiscent of a reply to a toot of mine recently:

"As soon as I - a femme-presenting person - post anything about sex, men respond as if that means I want to have sex with them. So I don't post about sex."

@JenJen @neil Like you suddenly went from functionary to sex object?
@peribotsarah @neil yup! You can sometimes see the instant switch in their body language. It's fascinating.

@JenJen @peribotsarah

I am slightly (not massively, but slightly) surprised that an event like this is not filled with people for whom consent is paramount.

@neil @peribotsarah to be fair, that was the only dodgy interaction I had. I have more uncomfortable social interactions at general comic cons (and even that's not many!)

@JenJen @peribotsarah

Ah, okay. Still horrible though.

@JenJen Wow.

I wouldn't categorise that as 'mildly' creepy, outside of very particular contexts with very particular participants!

@simon_brooke I've had worse, so it's mild 😂 I never felt unsafe, just annoyed by the Audacity. Like: Mate, buy my stuff or step aside. I'm not here to roleplay with you

@JenJen This is where I always struggled with fetish fairs. I'm tiny and it seems to attract a certain type of creep.

Glad you had the table and were able to shut it down

@babe I'm so sorry if you've had to deal with it too! It's just so annoying.

Frustratingly enough, if I have someone masculine next to me who's bigger than me, that reduces the interactions by like 90%. 💫wonder whyyy💫

I now use the "I draw porn comics" as a type of comfort test with new people - if they get that vibe where I'm no longer a person with them I know not to bother getting to know them because they're unsafe

@JenJen Gotta do what you have to to stay safe!

It's disturbing sometimes how quickly your personhood just goes right out the window in some people's eyes the moment they realise you have anything to do with the sex industry

@JenJen You have to assume that he would not have said what he said if Husbeard was stood next to you. He must have known what he said was crossing a line. If not, then that man needs to check his morals and his views on women.
I'm a large CIS male and what he said to you made me grimace.
@DickDiamond oh yeah he was a walking red flag - but at least he made it very obvious so that's good! Saves people the trouble of finding out later. Silver linings or something

@JenJen oh... that's horrible! I'm sorry that happened to you!

I've had very few interactions like that at cons, most of the time it's been outright misogyny. I think that's due to most people think I'm a guy online and then get taken aback I'm not.
