I have told this story before about taking a taxi a few years back. The driver was Persian. The context of the conversation was history.
He said something to me which has always stood out. Canada and the US have no context for history, he said, we have family feuds that are older than your country.
There is probably an equivalent saying to the one in The Princess Bride. "Never get involved in a land war in 《Persia》"

Over the years, I worked with a lot of Iranians/Persians in different companies.
The one constant was their understanding of their history. They could all quote 1000 year old poetry from Ferdowsi. They knew the names Cyrus, Darius and Xerxes. They learned their language in the context of the history. No See Spot Run. Their civilization and culture will outlast the current regime and outsiders who intervene.
