@Danie van der Merwe Sounds only slightly different than the bulk of decentralised social media.

Lots of different choices in software, but in the end they all use the same protocol and are thereby all on the same network. They do need an account though, that seems to be a difference.

@hans well no not all all actually. If I think of Aether, SSB, Retroshare, etc they are pretty different in terms of protocols and zero interoperability. Bitsocial runs on top of IPFS yes, so that is common but is really the transport network layer. Can't say X and FB are the same because they both use TCP/IP.

No central account though — just a self generated key.

Decentralised like Mastodon require a server and central account registration. P2P has no servers at all just IPFS linking them.

@hans P2P networks are very different to decentralised networks. The former has no servers and no accounts to be approved/blocked, and often does not even use TCP/IP at all.

Decentralised networks have servers which connect, and users must register an account, and that account can be deleted by a server owner. All posting works via those servers.

@Danie van der Merwe It appears I have some learning to do then, that is a technique I don't know.
@hans it's an interesting rabbit hole to go down - I summarised a few at https://gadgeteer.co.za/altsocialmedia but it is not up to date.
