I left the industry in late 2020, after years of being underpaid and denied every opportunity for career advancement. The pandemic really pulled the wool off my eyes about how regressive the industry was (as if seeing everyone inside it line up to kiss the ring in 2016 wasn't enough of a start).
The pandemic also kicked off a lot of thinking about my own gender and trauma, and I would not have been able to transition without leaving that job. At the time, I had no idea how much my work was holding me back from that self-actualization.
