I finally got Immich installed and it ROCKS!!

The very first thing that jumps out at me: on my iPhone, the device that actually took the damn photo, the location just says "Coulterville." Locations are always way too broad and generic.

On Immich, it properly IDs the geolocation as Yosemite Valley.

This is a great first impression!

Here we gooooooo! Fingers crossed -- that's a LOT of data.
#Immich
Immich is successfully importing all my albums from the CSV files inside the iCloud export. THIS ROCKS!
@killyourfm
Immich-go is pure magic. It took about forever for it to get my tens and tens of thousands of images and videos pushed to my vps, but watching the status page was soothing. I could turn elements on and off as needed.
@killyourfm
Oh, and I saw the same thing with my Google Photos import and coordinates. Much more specific place names.
@killyourfm is that importing a directory into immich or something else?
@hobbs it's importing a massive iPhoto/iCloud Export to Immich on my TrueNAS server, and apparently even keeping albums, memories, and all metadata intact. So far so good!
@killyourfm rad! i've been considering something similar but i have a 120ish GB folder full of unsorted pictures that i need to do something about. immich was a consideration but i didn't know about import options.

@killyourfm

my name is bazurk because i'm apparently crazy and I approve of this mans message. #Immich rocks.. Soon as I installed it it was like "baby where have you been all my life? kinda moment using it. none of the the bullshit bloat and just the cool shit.

edit: #spectrum says hello. made a correction thanks for knowing what i really meant and liking it anyway. love you too.

@killyourfm

Great to hear. I need to do this.

@EricBono I am QUITE stuck on safely enabling shared links (for sharing here, with friends, etc), but everything else has been really straightforward! (I'm using TrueNAS Scale)

@killyourfm

Oh, good luck on that, a good kind of problem. That's a feature I probably would never even use but sounds like a great option.

@killyourfm @EricBono I assume you mean making shared links work without exposing the whole Immich instance publically? https://github.com/alangrainger/immich-public-proxy is great.

@me @EricBono Yes, exactly that! I'm trying to use Immich Public Proxy with TrueNAS Scale, though, and getting really hung up on how.
@killyourfm I switched a couple of months ago (from Synology Photos) and I LOVE it!! It's so incredible to have such a feature-rich, futuristic, self-hosted photo manager. :)
@killyourfm this is hilarious considering that the reverse geocoding implementation kind of sucks right now πŸ˜…
@killyourfm have been using it for a year or so, so far 0 problems !
@killyourfm Welcome to the club!
