Biography of a good boy.

Born August 1st, 2011 in Saint-Louis, Senegal. Mother half Belgian shepherd, father unknown.

Was so completely infested with fly larvae when we got him that the tip of his tail fell off.

Castrated without anaesthetic in front of 20 veterinary students because we were naive and the vet was an idiot.

Lived "dans la brousse" for three years with two other dogs. Spent his days running, barking and chasing lizards.

Accompanied us on a road trip from Senegal to Spain. Found Nouakchott too busy to poop, so waited until we were shown around in our hotel suite, more or less as we were explaining that the dogs were fully house broken and wouldn't cause any trouble. Getting him across the border between Western Sahara and Morocco took a bribe (a bottle of 25 year old whiskey).

Spent about 12 hours tripping after gobbling down a loaf of mouldy bread stolen from a pile of kitchen waste.

Showed all emotions by way of making strange noises and shaking all over, often leaving us wondering if he was happy or having some kind of fit.

Was the happiest when he could stay close to me and spent many contented hours dosing under my desk.

Four months ago he developed a cough. Three months ago that cough turned out to be caused by two tumours around his heart. He got worse very slowly and quietly and then very quickly. Today we took him to the vet and said goodbye.

He was a strange, kind and faithful little dog. He probably loved me more than I deserved. I hope I did right by him.
