@gaby_wald @Natanox using some of my IRL XP points, i can offer an atheists translation: theists tend to be dualistic - good vs. evil - of course "they" consider themselves the "good" guys. "AutoMAGICALLY", though, everyone else, who isn't in their "in-group" gets to be classified as the opposite of "good".

Yeah, that's why i'm an atheist!

You can do whatever you want, as long as you're not grinding MY gears!

Do no harm!
Take no shiz!

..kinda Buddhist. Less annoying than dogmatic dualism! 🖖

@platymew @gaby_wald Literally nothing about that meme was about theism or even dualism, but politics in general (with the context of fascism).

@Natanox @gaby_wald oof, well, enjoy my "state of mind", then - for me, my comment kinda made sense. 😅

Fascism seems rather similar to "dogmatic dualism", imho.

@platymew @gaby_wald Perhaps that makes more sense in a system like the US. In my perspective fascism is of course extremism, but not the counterpart to something else. Also not necessarily religiously tainted, though of course religion gets used by fascists for manipulation since it provides power over people.

Ne jamais oublier que dans une dictature ce n’est pas toi qui décide si tu as quelque chose à te reprocher ou pas.
@deuch Justement, c'est là le propos !
@gaby_wald

Can something wrong become right simply because someone defines it right?
@gaby_wald "Commander Vimes didn't like the phrase 'The innocent have nothing to fear', believing the innocent had everything to fear, mostly from the guilty but in the longer term even more from those who say things like 'The innocent have nothing to fear'.” - Terry Pratchett
@Illuminatus @gaby_wald My proclamations warning that "The innocent have nothing to fear" have been prompting questions already answered by my warning proclamations.
@gaby_wald While I like the sentiment, I dislike that it appears to be a white woman telling a person of color that she's better and more advanced in her understanding of right and wrong than him. It just... don't quite sit right.

@domo What is exactly the context to apply ?

(I don't see the aspect "color / white" at first and at all !)

@gaby_wald So the context is colonization. White people from European countries and colonies often imply they have the right to rule people of color because they know better. The concept is called pinkwashing or rainbowwashing and gets used as an excuse to invade and colonize locations.

The sentiment that they're trying to use here, is not bad, but it would have been better to use a woman of color in the white woman's place, because otherwise it can appear racist at first glance.

@domo You're correct for a Earth only point of view !

Here's pictures from a scifi tv serie from StarWars franchise. There is racism / specism too in that fiction universe too ! (Do you see other intelligent species around ?)

But here it is speaking about racism and democracy ! And the two people you are speaking of are equals !

@gaby_wald I know it is fictional. I am stating how it is perceived regardless though. The series itself is also written and directed by many white people who made the choice to use a white woman for that scene. The external perception of racism is not one you can simply explain away. Fantasy worlds still bare a reflection of the real worlds and times in which they were written.

You can simply accept that and say, "oh yeah, I hadn't considered how it might be perceived. I hope they cast more people of color in scenes like this in the future to avoid that perception"

We could switch the images and then you could complain that is is a man telling a woman that he is better

Her Genocide Speech also hit hard,

It showed on TV when most of the west was trying to avoid the word "genocide".
