'Chair of the Upper House inquiry, Sarah Kane, said the university was at risk of "sacrificing fundamental social benefits in the pursuit of corporate outcomes".'

I do think this captures the main issue in Australian universities. Neoliberalisation means they can no longer prioritise public good. This is all fixable if we had a government who understood the value of having a well educated populace, and the value of creating new knowledge.
