Does anybody know of a good, hopefully concise explanation of the modern flow of oil (nominal, pre-March?)? I'm vaguely aware that oil of various sorts and even refined petroleum products are shipped all over the world, and have heard some details now and again, but I think even a halfway decent infographic would be incredibly informative to me.
@ChateauErin I don't have an overall explanation, but I do know of an important detail that I think not a lot of people know, and which changes a lot of the dynamics related to oil production, and it's that not all oil is the same: In order to produce lighter fuels like gasoline and jet fuel, you need high quality, lighter oil, and not every country has enough reserves of those. That's how a country can produce more oil than it needs in volume, but also be a net importer of oil.
@ChateauErin there's maps of oil export you can find online, but I think those only tell part of the story, given that some countries can pump all the oil they have out and still need to import oil in order to supply its entire energy needs.
@brunoph yeah, I'm vaguely aware of this. I don't know how many different qualities there are being moved around. I'm under the impression that there's also differences in contaminants (primarily sulfur content?)
