"In the aftermath of the second world war, a culture of militant masculinity developed among white evangelicals in the US, according to historian Kristin Kobes Du Mez. ... Whereas in the 19th century, the ideal of 'Christian manhood' would have been focused on virtues such as honor, dignity and gentlemanliness," (continued in /2)

"by the early 21st century, the ideal evangelical man had morphed into something that looks a lot more like Hegseth. …

Du Mez argues that the transformation of the evangelical masculine ideal grew out of a sense of embattlement. Facing threats to their status from feminism, the civil rights movement, the Vietnam war, and broad economic shifts," (continued in /3)

"evangelicals invested psychically in a kind of chauvinistic religiosity that allowed them to reassert their dominance, at the very least within the home. @wdlindsy

It's not only non-Americans that are faced with this type of toxic masculinity.

These folks believe they have a duty to cull the vulnerable.

This is how the GOP talk about Americans:
Former South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer

"My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals.

You know why? Because they breed,” Bauer said during a speech advocating that the government take away assistance"

Could the former lieutenant governor make a move against Lindsey Graham?

@Npars01 @wdlindsy
I truly cannot tell which would be worse, overall.
Lady Graham is ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY rabid about wiping out a significant portion of the Middle East, by any means necessary, war crimes be damned, and this asshole wants to wipe out those who he considers a drain on society.

I wonder if the people he is trying to con into voting for him realize that most of them fall into the second category...
