When in Germany ?

@idjansazov

The state of Schleswig-Holstein is already switching to Linux and open source. It will likely take even longer before the rest of Germany follows suit.

It was very slow. I see LiMux have some boot up in 2024 in Munich, but it is still slow.

Back in the days most of the software was binary and it was hard for states to switch, but now everything is web based ... what are they waiting for ?

Spin up a Debian with LTS and it will serve for 5 years without a problem.

@idjansazov

The Microsoft Germany headquarters are located in Munich. I don't think there will be a resurgence of Linux in Munich anytime soon.

Not sure how Germany works really. Isn't it the IT department of the government says what has to be done like in France ?

If Germany can cut Russia's gas, it will cut the bloatware of Microsoft.

And this is not a political decision, but national security. Can you imagine all employees of the governments in Europe identify who is using the OS to Microsoft, because of the pedo identification law in USA ?

@idjansazov
There is a Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and State Modernization. The ministry is tasked with consolidating key digital competencies and resources, establishing clear lines of responsibility, and centrally managing the federal government’s IT infrastructure. It is not responsible for the federal states; each state operates independently.

@maniabel

OMG. I hope one day for United Europe, but as I see ... even in Germany is hard to understand each other between the federal states.

Don't the German's see the bigger picture with China and India and try to unite their petty differences for more united front.

The world improve so much because of FOSS, we have to switch to FOSS - this way the governments can chip in the projects and develop even better software (not sure how do they like crypto though ).
