I attended a meeting in my first ever book club and wow, didn't know you could fit so many wonderful bookworms into one room! 10/10 definitely going again (next week).

#books #bookclub #fridaynight

@dlsl I started one at work a few years ago and had decent membership for a while... We covered some fantastic Sci Fi books and everyone had unique insights that made me really excited to attend every month.

Then I moved to a bigger company with fewer junior engineers (the kind with no young kids and lots of spare time) and tried again. Only one person RSVP'd (the CTO in fact 😬) and I cancelled.

I don't know many people in my local area so I got really excited when I discovered #bookwyrm and I was hoping I'd see it grow into a place for book clubs to flourish in the fediverse but so far I haven't seen much development in that area

@nicr9 that's a shame, I really hope you can find a local one again at some point (and that you have time still!). I was never able to organize/find one in my hometown and now live in a bigger city and was able to find one online (on Meetup-platform, which I admit I don't like but couldn't find anything better).

I haven't given bookwyrm a try yet, isn't that the fedi-version of goodreads? Really hope that takes off at some point like lemmy/piefed/mbin 🤞

@dlsl yeah, federated social book site. They have basic groups feature but last time I played with it, it felt half finished

I'll have to try meetup! Felt like I haven't used that it years...

@nicr9 I hope that gets better, I see in their repository that it's in active development at least! Thanks for the tip, think I'll give bookwyrm a try.

And definitely give meetup a try if you are looking to find people to meet. I wouldn't have found as many groups that do stuff together without it (at least in the city I live in) because I'm not a very outgoing person 😄 Some meetup groups just have a group chat number publicly visible so I didn't even need to sign up.
