Today I hiked my 22nd episode on the #GR5. In Belgium, it went from Bokrijk railway station to the village of Zutendaal, a distance of 23 km. The route was modified quite recently and overall I liked it a lot, with only some short sections through the outskirts of Genk. But a lot of forests, a 40 m climb halfway and even some heath. I’ve so far done over 350 km on the #GR5 since Hoek van Holland and Maastricht is now getting close!
Bonus: Don’t ask me why there is a ski jumping ramp from the Flemish government in Genk, didn’t know this is a serious sport in Flanders. But they did also build a viewing point underneath it. Decided to not go up, as I don’t like the metal rasters they used as flooring.
I’m very content with these statistics! Especially I did take a break halfway and had multiple traffic lights.
@smveerman I believe the proper term in English is 'hill', even if there's no actual hill to be seen anywhere, or the hill is actually a mountain
@smveerman Honestly, place looks like they've decided to put every sports facility imaginable somewhere in town
@HaTetsu yes, I’ve never seen a bike crossing ski jumping horse riding complex with open bar and a big Flemish flag before.
@smveerman And that's just one of the complexes!
@smveerman Pretty sure they got this from the Nordics, by the way. I think I recall the sport being called something like "hill jump" somewhere over there
