Amazing Stories Volume 9 Number 2 (June 1934)

Relatively calm, undramatic artwork for this collection. Tonally it's nice, with the browns and oranges, but is the ship descending or rising? Is it leaking that creepy smoke or disseminating it on purpose? If this is “Subjugating The Earth” then why start in the Arctic?

@SFFMagazineCovers I presume the little “NRA” logo has nothing to do with *the* NRA?

@michaelgemar
Is THE NRA logo (an old one) 🤷 It is a rifle on the cover... A huge amount of mainstream USA entertainment material contains guns propaganda 🙈

@SFFMagazineCovers

@ifrit @michaelgemar @SFFMagazineCovers That was not a logo for the National Rifle Association, but it was a logo for a Depression-era program. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Recovery_Administration

@SFFMagazineCovers it's all nice and undramatic to look at until you see the shadow of the yeti in the lower left corner... So the yeti is an alien? Was he sent to negotiate, to explore, or to take a skiing vacation? So many questions.
