Took the day off to head up to Natural Bridge State Park with my wife. Pictures don’t really do justice to how massive it is.

Then there are the Blue Ridge Mountains, always gorgeous. Will return to Skyline Trail later this summer, as it’s an official International Dark Sky viewing location. Perhaps in August for the Perseid meteor shower season.

@mlawton The people for scale does give me a good sense as to how big it is. Very cool!
@WTL @mlawton i get homesick for the Appalachians. Not much else from where i grew up, but definitely those

@bomkatt @WTL people that grew up in and around mountains carry an attachment to them in ways I can appreciate but never fully understand. They are beautiful.

I actually feel a bit crowded when deep in them, like when the roads cut into the mountainside. I much prefer to gaze on them from a distance. I think it’s my flat Indiana roots feeling confined by anything other than the horizon.

@mlawton @bomkatt I think I'd enjoy the Appalachians; I grew up listening to music about them.

I do understand the attachment to a place, though. While the family farm is somewhere I think about regularly, Algonquin Park is probably the place I think about the most.

@WTL @mlawton i am always thrown in flatlands like Indiana, Illinois or west Texas. I feel very tall, at least till the corn gets growing
@mlawton looks awesome 🤩
