It's difficult for me to talk calmly about companies that are excited to spend hundreds of millions of dollars training stochastic models while the teachers in every public classroom in North America pay for their own chalk, some of their students' school supplies and some fraction of their students' lunches out of their own pockets. That those companies go on to say this will make the teachers "obsolete" is too much.
"We need a sovereign AI strategy!" Fuck that and fuck you. If you don't have an every child sleeps in a warm bed under a safe roof and studies on a full stomach strategy, if you don't have an everyone who wants an education can have one strategy - and you can have all of those for one percent of your sovereign AI strategy - your sovereign AI strategy is worth nothing.
@mhoye If your sovereign AI strategy isn't making AI companies pay the full market value for any work taken for training data and making them pay yearly until it is removed from datasets, fining any AI company severely and prosecuting their employees for illegal actions and using any monies gathered to help the poor and subsidise science, education and the arts, and to create laws to force image and video generators to watermark deepfakes or to be able to answer yes or no if something came from their system to crack down on revenge porn and political meddling from the likes of Elon, then your strategy is worthless and you should be in charge of nothing.
