I’ve tried them all (Mokum, Lekker Lekker, Queen Vic) and I’m happy to confirm I found the best kroketten in #Melbourne: this new place at Prahran Market. They’re actually great.

Best to worst #Melbourne kroketten:

1) 🏆 Prahran Market, recently opened stall (all-round excellent)

2) 🥈 Lekker Lekker, cart visiting the outer suburban markets (great, just a little heavy on the curry)

3) Mokum, Brunswick Amsterdam café (pros: they also serve beer and fries; cons: not a great crust, and a little heavy on the curry)

4) Queen Vic Market stall (don’t waste your money)

honorable mention to Entrecôte in Prahran which serves “boulettes” which can pass for reasonable bitterballen if you haven’t had bitterballen in quite a while. Then again now you can just go to Prahran Market and get excellent kroket so perhaps a service that’s no longer required.
@slevelt Thank you for this community service.
@slevelt I love how specific this post is.
@ferngirl I mean, it’s AMAZING to me that in this city all the way at the other side of the globe there’s enough places selling kroket to be able to compare 😅 In the whole of England I knew exactly one place for bitterballen (none for kroket), and it wasn’t great.

@slevelt I suppose that should be an incentive for me to cross the river and visit the Prahran market for the first time. I’ve only lived in Melbourne for 29 years 🙃

(In my defence, that’s 29 years within walking distance of the QVM)

Note that Casa Iberica on Johnston Street sells (pre made packaged) spanish kroketten of potato + flavourings. Different, but also very yum.

@cafuego do make sure you check the market opening times before you come over. I also recommend a visit to nearby Greville Records if you’re into that kind of thing
