Next up on RetroSpectives, I'm after comments to feature regarding your memories, thoughts and experiences with View-Master 3D reels. Did you have one / still have one? Any favourite sets of reels? Are they still amazing today, or were they just a waste of space? The video is due to go live on Thursday 16th April.

@retrosteveuk I had one as a kid but I don’t remember the images being in actual 3D, and I don’t know if I was too young to appreciate that or they weren’t.

@RobeeShepherd Definitely 3D. Slightly different angle in each eyepiece. Kind of a vintage version of VR (ish).

I still have a nice mix of 3D reels in a bag in the cupboard (some of them my wife's). Sadly, a lot of them are very faded now but a few seem to have survived the rigors of time.

@retrosteveuk I’m not sure if you can feature this comment, however my strongest memory of this was aged 9 or 10, I was at my newly-wed uncle’s house and I saw one lying around in the kitchen. Picked it up to have a look and found myself staring at a 3D porn snap with lots of hair everywhere.

Mesmerised, I snapped through the reel until the, ahem, end.

@retrosteveuk I had a viewmaster when I was about 8 or 9? I only had 2 sets: Daktari (a series featuring a veterinarian) and I think a Snoopy one, the last one I am not sure of. I enjoyed them but I was bored after a while. I think I may still have them somewhere πŸ™‚

This is the thing I have to admit - they were quite a novelty at the time which quickly wore off, but as a retro curiosity now they hold a lot of nostalgia for some. I've just been going through some old reels today and the 3D effect still pops really nicely.
