@ai6yr true dat. What's your hookup for green beans? I do Sweet Maria's from the bay area as I couldn't find anything down here. On a side note, nothing has taught me that I still need to learn a fricking ton like roasting coffee at home. I do love it though.
@Floppyhat My roasting consistency/skill is not quite there to know what is good because of the bean vs. my roast, lol. That said, I definitely notice the amount of caffeine vs. one bean versus another, at the same roast level...
@ai6yr huh. I notice the bitterness, smokiness, and sometimes the absence of richness when I forget and let them roast too long. Never though have I been able to distinguish between spicy loam and notes of caramelized pomegranate.
@Floppyhat Also, after figuring out how to roast coffee, realize a bunch of coffee beans that the spouse had once bought (clearance), which were horrible, had been under roasted... not even first crack. Which is why they tasted so bad. I could have fixed those beans if I had known that.
@ai6yr SFBA lattes much higher. Glad I taught myself years before the pandemic. If using Peet’s app to order even just half pound of coffee beans at cafe, they load a free beverage. So that is pretty much the only time I have a takeout one. Half pound lasts me 3 1/2 weeks if no company & they grind it for me. Large latte is $7. 1/2 lb organic coffee is $12. So I find it a good deal.
@ai6yr My way of getting the freshest roasted bean for myself and I don’t have a grinder. If the new owner’s of Peet’s start messing with that tho, I am going to have to find an alternative. They are already bringing in a ton of fruity Starbucks type drinks & closing locations.
