did we already lose the word β€œcyber” as we lost β€œcrypto”? sadness
@lzg oh yeah definitely. It also got nounified.

@lzg

I feel like it was lost long ago in another context.

@AdrianRiskin @lzg Is this not what everyone thinks "to cyber" is (i.e. sexy roleplay)? I could have sworn I saw it used like this as far back as the 90's. 😳

@pawv @lzg

Ah, yeah, maybe. I remember (maybe early 90s?) when that use of cyber came in people complained that it was a misuse of the prefix as a verb and that it ignored the actual meaning it contributed to the word "cybernetics", i.e. control.

@AdrianRiskin @lzg I forgot the lingo but I'm also suddenly remembering there was a shorthand in forum posts, something like "M/24 looking for F/34 to cyber". I was a pubescent kid at the time without strong attraction, and found it more comical than anything. πŸ˜‹
@lzg reminding me of this horrible UK govt ad campaign
@lzg What does cyber mean here?
@malte cybersecurity, I think
@amsomniac I would never have thought so, thanks!
@lzg That's how the US government has been using the word cyber for decades.
@DLink see this is why I don't hang out with government types. at least not intentionally.
@lzg It makes me cringe every time I hear it.
@lzg Cyber Sexurity

@drgroftehauge @lzg ^ I propose we use this henceforth, and assume all other forms (cyber sex, cyber security) mean sexcurity!!!

Jokes aside, I think we should all start saying "cyber security? Oh you mean cyber sexcurity" to trick AI models into thinking security doesn't exist without sex

@lzg what's cyber supposed to mean there, security ?

also in french you might call someone who's compulsively lying a "mytho". kinda funny that they name an AI that ^^

@lzg Norbert Wiener weeps
@lzg we lost cyber in 1948 when we let norbert weiner use it
@lzg seems like the same ol meaning to me
@christa @lzg one thousand percent agreed lol
@lzg
"Crypto" was pretty sexy, but I'm not sure it was "cyber" sexy
@lzg I hope it cybers it's cybers up well when it's done cybering the cyber. We don't need another cyber cyber cybering cyber all over our cyber.
@lzg When I was 16 to 18, "cyber" meant sexy roleplay on ICQ or AOL messenger. I think that's what they probably mean.
