Wild how every community that takes accusations of being an echo chamber seriously ends up turning into a right wing echo chamber. Wonder what that’s all about.
Anyway, conservative viewpoints can never, under any circumstances, be tolerated in a place where the baseline ideal is inclusivity. They’ve shown *without fail* that they’re hostile to civil discourse to the point of being incompatible with it at a basic, fundamental level.
@MxSadie it's exhausting how often this has to be repeated, and how often people who aren't on the right, but have been lucky enough to not even see this happen, will think along the lines of "this time it's different".
@bovaz Yeah, it’s never different. We’ve been this over and over again. Why would we ever expect the results to be different at this point?
@MxSadie barring those with vested self-serving interest in this, I think some of it is due to the fact that they may have met someone who claimed to be right-wing because of specific topics/ideas, and got better when a wider context was shown or explained to them.
But this misses (among other things) the critical point that online it's never just one dude venting, but a whole army of people and bots, who can "support" each other in being awful, and who are backed by a lot of money.
Moreover, this doesn't excuse from listening to the people who have witnessed, or have been through, these dynamics already. And this step (listening and accepting other people experience) is crucial, and something I would expect to not need explaining.
@bovaz @MxSadie There have been scads of research into the science of persuading people to change their world views. And they all agree - online debates ain't one of them.
