Thinking whether or not to buy a Demonic Tutor 🤔
I have 4 decks that can run it, but only 1 of those is already Bracket 3 due to other Game Changers, the others are Bracket 2. And I'm unsure if those decks could compete in B3 with just the addition of Demonic Tutor
I'm also eyeing Teferi's Protection, with similar thoughts. 5 of my decks include white, but 1 is "hard" Bracket 3 (there are other Game Changers) and 1 is "soft" Bracket 3 (no GCs but I think the deck is too efficient for B2).
For the asking price on these cards I would want to be absolutely certain I'll use it
But for the same price, I could buy 2 or 3 non-GC expensive cards that might fit my strategies better
for example, I noticed this is getting reprinted in Secrets of Strixhaven Mystical Archive, and it instantly went on the buy list. This will be an excellent finisher for Elves or Humans :3
GrimDeck.comIf the other three decks are comfortably B2 now, I would treat Demonic Tutor as less "auto jump to B3" and more "what does it find, and how often does that end the game?" If it is mostly smoothing draws, probably fine. If it regularly turns into combo tutor or best answer every time, that is the part that makes tables feel B3 fast.
If the other three are honest Bracket 2 decks, I probably would not jam Demonic Tutor in just because they can run it. That card raises consistency fast. I'd only add it if those decks already want tighter, more repetitive lines instead of swingier games.
