I suspect I am the current record holder world-wide for number of DEC VT100s picked up and set down over the last 24 hours.

Moving house sucks.

@NanoRaptor Vascular Training 100
@NanoRaptor quite possibly, but I've done 16 3279s, a controller, disk packs. Twice.
@NanoRaptor It's called deadlift because it's obsolete technology.
@NanoRaptor my record was six when we upgraded the computer lab with vt220s...how many have you collected? (he asks in wild admiration)

@NanoRaptor

How many do you have? 🙂🤷‍♂️

Any rare or especially interesting examples?

@NanoRaptor Hope you didn't catch a terminal disease in the process!
@NanoRaptor it's a terminal condition

@joat @NanoRaptor

Lot of machines. Must have been moving at terminal velocity.

@NanoRaptor ... average person lifts 0 VT100s per year. DECs Dana, who moved to cave & lifts over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.

@NanoRaptor

I had the opportunity to pick up some old WYSE terminals circa 2001, and I didn't.

I still feel bad about that. :P

@rl_dane @NanoRaptor
I used to maintain a set of monochrome CRT displays (mostly green, a few red) in a server room, for textmode console work.
Lower power consumption than colour, and much less shelf depth needed.
They eventually got replaced with 4:3 flat LCD displays.

@dec23k @NanoRaptor

Red? You mean amber? Red would be terrifying. ;)

@rl_dane @NanoRaptor
Red on black. No happy amber glow.

@dec23k @NanoRaptor

Wow, I've never seen that. That sounds unnerving. XD

@NanoRaptor

Yes, truly, deeply sucks.

Though, once, during the 1994 NBA finals, while my partner was out of town, I moved almost the entire contents of our apartment to another unit on a different floor. I borrowed a shopping cart from the neighborhood grocery and took my time - wheel a cart of pots and pans into the new pad, sit down on a box, and watch Hakeem do his thing for 10 minutes before making another trip. Of course, this was all on a 10" B&W TV. It was perfect.

@NanoRaptor the super heavy weight class is lifts of SGI and Sun Microsystems Trinitron monitors!
@NanoRaptor Dunno in circa 1990 I did an office move over a weekend of about 1000 desks.
They were almost exclusively DEC VTs, although most probably VT420s (of which I still have a few)
@NanoRaptor I have lived in the same place for three decades, largely because I wanted to avoid moving.
@dnkboston @NanoRaptor
My prediction for the length of the current Vinyl record revival is “Until they have to move”
@NanoRaptor so it was essentially a DECathalon?
@NanoRaptor Since I picked up exactly 0, winner winner, chicken dinner.
@NanoRaptor You are a time-traveling Terminalator.
@NanoRaptor it’s the blurst 😞🫂
