A woman I know has had her health suddenly deteriorate. She has money, but sometimes even that can't help you. She's been to the Cleveland Clinic, the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and both Vanderbilt and Emory Universities. I feel so helpless watching her go through this. They know what's wrong, but apparently there's no treatment.

Chronic illness (and of course, acute as well) can be so hard. Chances are, someone you know pretty well hasn't even told many people about their condition, mostly because they are tired of unsolicited advice, especially since they are already tired. Others might tell others all the time, because the chronic illness has overshadowed their life.

Life can change so quickly.

Our current structures are not designed for this. The ADA has certainly helped, but we still have a long way to go.

#ChronicIllness #Disability

@kimlockhartga We sure damn do. And I think you’re right that a lot of us know people who haven’t mentioned their chronic illnesses. Or we just go on in our #ableist ways pretending not to notice.
