I'm getting a little tired of hearing Luxon's excuses and weakness in his role. He repeatedly utters
"As we've repeatedly said, New Zealand has learned the lessons from Covid the hard way and we will not repeat the mistakes made at that time."
Maybe it's the CEO mentality. Maybe the PM mentality is too hard to handle.
He should watch PrimeMinister again and again and again and again.

@BigD What lessons did we learn?

* That societal cohesion can help surmount daunting challenges. Nothing beats the feeling that you're part of a team pulling the same direction.
* That looking out for each other is actually worth doing. Avoiding thousands of needless deaths and keeping our fragile healthcare system from being utterly swamped was the reward.
* That slowing down and taking a break from the materialist treadmill is not the end of the the world.
* That govts and central banks can and should give money directly to people. Corollary: they should also tax the wealthy in a proportionate manner to prevent them from going on a buying spree, because THAT IS WHAT CAUSES ASSET INFLATION NOT POORS BUYING GROCERIES AND PAYING RENT.
* That a certain fraction of our population are insufferable, whinging dickheads who want to feed the capitalist machine with the bodies of the disadvantaged.
* That another fraction (which has some overlap with the previously mentioned dickheads) are susceptible to disinfo campaigns that target ignorance and break down trust in actual experts in their fields.

Luxon obviously learned none of this. He needs to re-sit the exam.

@phil_stevens Yes, all good points. Luxon fixates on cost, indebtedness and "the lessons of the past", (especially Covid). We are all supposed to be in praise and understanding of the fiscal responsibility of our ministers in times of a crisis. ( Which we admittedly aren't quite in, until we run out of diesel)
We get told again and again that we can't do xyz... because of the cost of doing it. ( exception being roads)
Responsible government? Ha.
