I remember debating on Twitter if it was a good idea to switch from the Star as the sign of appreciating a Tweet to a Heart. I’d argued it’d make me think twice about faving a Tweet because a heart sends a different message than a star. Women on Twitter were already dealing with a bunch of BS so it felt like it’d amp that up.

Anyway, pretty sure that wasn’t the core problem with social media. Got that one wrong.

@Gte Likes are now florps. And by florps I mean “the algorithmic plaything of a drug-addled billionaire Nazi”.
@kjhealy All of the terrific friendships I’ve either fostered or been able to maintain over the years. All of the serendipity of virtually meeting and becoming familiar or friendly with truly brilliant folks. All of that value inherent in humanity dispersed through the world and brought together in small chunks. I kind of worry that it’s outweighed by the Tannoy of Terrible it has become. Also, I remember AOL and Usenet. Maybe I’m just pearl clutching in my advancing age.
@Gte Nice things; we could have had them. And yet.
@Gte @kjhealy marking this post with an orange square which means something only to me 🟧
