  • #Renga #連歌 (linked poetry) consists of poets composing alternating verses of 5–7–5 and 7–7 beats or morae (not syllables).
  • One poet begins with a 5–7–5 verse, followed by another poet’s 7–7 response.
  • Additional poets may then join, continuing the alternating 5–7–5 and 7–7 pattern.

@NaraMoore @extraspecialbitter Thank you Nara and ESB for playing along today. You describe your form as I understand it. I was uninvited, and don’t consider myself an expert, but I’ve been intrigued by collaborative poetry & the renga form for some time. I searched #renga on Masto. Not much there, but I found your exchange & liked the theme (dune grass, peace, sand (beach & dunes), & the suggestions of things unseen. So I jumped in.

@NaraMoore @extraspecialbitter I’ll respond (in haiku / renga form) to some of your recent prompts later, as the mood suits, & after I mull over some themes.

In the mean time, I hope we don’t lose any civilizations tonight.

Peace

@MarkBrigham @extraspecialbitter

You are most welcome. We are here to have fun and sharing is fun. Some other people jump in at times @stevendbrewer

Even though I give a very specific morae count, not all of us are that particular. Which is fine, as we are here for fun, not poetry awards.

It’s good you’re not strict because I think in terms of syllables, not morae. And as much as I like the form, all rules are meant to be broken from time to time
