Greenpeace Australia will be using AI, as they're recruiting for AI and Data Platforms Lead:
"Working closely with the IT Manager, Platform Leads, and GPAP’s Data & AI Governance Council, you’ll lead the implementation of our AI Strategy, making sure every AI use case is transparent, ethical, and aligned with Greenpeace values."

Failing to see how a right wing techbro concept which is killing people + planet is ethical.

AI and Data Platforms Lead - Flexible Location / Work from Home - Job in Sydney - Greenpeace Australia Pacific

Lead the evolution of GPAP’s AI and Data strategy, owning the platforms and governance that turns data into environmental action.

@gusseting Before we tie them to the stake, as someone who worked in AI before the GenAI revolution: there’s a *lot* of ethical non-genAI work possible, especially in the geodata realm. Some types of environmental monitoring wouldn’t be possible without it (eg tracking floating debris over a combination of visible light data sources, to name just the first thing of many).

@venite It's a case of my autism/neurodiversity + sense of moral good = 🤯🤯🤯 over the state of the world.
Yes, Greenpeace, it's great that you mention too many cows in NZ:

NZ has around 5 million cattle. Australia has 26 million + deathly silence re: the harm caused to people + planet as a result.

I have a very hard time living with that, that I hope you can understand and empathise with as a fellow human.

Damn, Fonterra has a lot to answer for. Widespread degradation of Southland’s drinking water safety has been exposed in a council-commissioned report. #TooManyCows https://www.odt.co.nz/southland/nitrate-%E2%80%98news-not-good%E2%80%99-southland

This was before Palantir ⬆️

I'll give it 3 years before it's incorporated into ankle bracelets for prisoners.

Moo-ve over, human tracking. We're doing cows.

@gusseting

Cattle tracking as PoC. A worrying and interesting thought.

There are already GPS ankle bracelets used on those on parole & home detention here. I'd say Palantir would have an eye on 'disrupting' that market to eventual monopoly.

Perhaps also tapping into the lucrative immigration enforcement market. Wouldn't put it past some racist govs to employ them upon arrivals from certain origin countries, forced to wear while their paperwork for permanent residency is permanently delayed.

@JulianOliver it's been my experience in rural areas that women are basically the human version of cattle. Stock and station agents attempt to have conversations that go like this:
So, what've you been up to? Children? no.
Married? no.
Someone special? No, not really, so off to the meatworks I go, eh? HA HA.
When it comes to registering with govt for benefits etc - it's women who are more likely to be doing that than men.
eg: robodebt in australia hit women the hardest.
