I convinced my wife, a PC user, to spend two weeks with the MacBook Neo. Here's what won her over and what didn't! (@sixcolors members, you also get a bonus podcast episode with the two of us talking about it!) https://sixcolors.com/post/2026/04/a-pc-user-spends-two-weeks-with-the-macbook-neo/
A PC user spends two weeks with the MacBook Neo

Like millions of people around the world, I have a mixed marriage: I’ve long used Macs, but my wife Kat’s personal computer is a Windows PC. That categorization isn’t entirely fai…

Fans of @acp are going to love this one. 😂
@dmoren @acp So she used it primarily for streaming Moonlighting then? 😆

@dmoren Given that you mentioned your wife being no stranger to keyboard shortcuts, I'm surprised that the switch from Control to Command as the main modifier key didn't cause any issues.

That was one of my biggest hurdles when I asked for a MacBook at my work. Years of pinkie muscle memory to act as the main modifier finger was hard (or rather impossible) to get rid of.

Did you remap Command to Fn or was this not an issue for her?

@dmoren @sixcolors I had forgotten how convenient the easy usage of menus with the keyboard was on Linux and Windows. Not having it used to really bug me in the first years of using a Mac. I've learned not to expect it, but everyone would be happy if they brought it to macOS.
@dmoren I think it's worth noting that Excel 1.0 was on the Mac before the first Windows version 2.0. If it doesn't work well on the Mac, it's a choice of Microsoft. (Thankfully I I could wave goodbye when they ruined it with the 'ribbon'.)
@glotcha I'm not sure that has any relevance to the story?
@dmoren probably none now that we're at version 365. I feel sorry for people that have no choice but to put up with Microsoft products. Now all of the Copilot crap :) Maybe the web version has a better keyboard shortcut mapping.
