@Mpwg wasn't aware of this as an issue, tbh. Need to try to find a pattern here. Does it work the second time, for example? Or is it just some posts? Is it possible those posts were deleted or something? Also it could be something tied your instance, actually - perhaps the conversation API is being called with some parameter that's not widely supported maybe. Not sure. Because it works pretty much all the time for me, but I'm on .social.

@Mpwg that log is probably the best we've got available but it isn't much. Is that message appearing immediately after an attempt to view a conversation thread?
If it is, it seems like maybe hachyderm.io doesn't like something about those requests. What's odd is we don't really send anything. It's just using the /api/v1/statuses/<post_id>/context API to get the results. Odd for that to return a 421.
I wonder if it's taking time to build results and expecting us to retry or something like that.

@Mpwg thanks. It seems like this is something your particular server doesn't like and either we're supposed to maybe retry these requests if they fail and we're not (possible although API docs don't really seem to say this) or... I dunno? Maybe it could be a server config issue, too. It's not clear to me what 421 means in this context. I'll have to dig.
@Mpwg @hachyinfra @hachyderm near as I can tell, Mastodon itself doesn't use error code 421 for anything, so it is maybe coming from some kind of middle layer. (CDN? Proxy? I dunno.) Very much not an expert on this stuff, though.
