Jutta Hipp with Zoot Sims

...and with Ed Thigpen (OK, @octothorpe ?).

Thigpen played with Hipp on the previous release I've posted with her, and given she only recorded in the US in 1954-57, and then stopped...well, there's just not a lot out there.

Having read up on her in the meantime, a rather tragic career...too bad.

But - this is great regardless. Also features Jerry Lloyd (trumpet), Ahmed Abdul-Malik (bass).

@dnanian It seems a disproportionate number of jazz musicians have had tragic and unfortunate ends.
@octothorpe Hers is pretty sad, apart from the Leonard Feather bit...the Art Blakey incident is awful.
@dnanian oof. I’ll have to google it.
@octothorpe "When Art Blakey asked her to sit in with his group at the Bohemia café in New York, she refused, stating that she was drunk and in any case did not think she was good enough. Blakey dragged her to the piano and began playing at a furious tempo that she was unable to maintain. Blakey then addressed the audience: "Now you see why we don't want these Europeans coming over here and taking our jobs"..." [Wikipedia]
@octothorpe @dnanian musicians lead a life where work/life balance is very difficult and bad habits are easy to get into.
