Wind generation hit a new record for the month of March on the island of Great Britain, up 38% year-on-year, while solar nearly matched the output of last year’s exceptionally sunny spring.

@kim_harding

I remember that when wind power generation started to take off in the UK, that the opposing counsel argued that to cover energy needs they would need to construct wind farms 'all over the country'. I found this such a weak argument, it's like saying if we want people to travel on trains, then you would need to cover the whole country with railroad tracks.

@hnapel @kim_harding Someone once explained to me that the production of a single windmill is huge, compared to solar for example. So I imagine a windfarm is an even better idea.
@kim_harding In the Analysis I can't see what this wind and solar generation capacity cost in installation and maintenance, i.e. has there been a positive return on investment in monetary terms ? I think wind/solar is a good idea anyway - for a number of reasons - but just wondered what the financial side looks like.

@pacman Of course they are profitable, why wouldn't they be?

It is not like fossil fuels, which are subsidised by trillions of dollars a year https://ourworldindata.org/how-much-subsidies-fossil-fuels

How much in subsidies do fossil fuels receive?

Estimates range from less than $1 trillion to $7 trillion. Where do these numbers come from?

Yet another reason to phase out fossil fuel: price stability

@Npars01 Yes, something we could have done at anytime in the last 100 years, but there are very powerful vested interest who want to keep the world hooked on fossil fuels 🤬 😱 🤬
