The rescue of the USAF airman shot down in Iran (by an SA-6, a Soviet-era SAM almost as old as #Trump) cost the lives of nine Iranians KIA; lost two Reaper UAVs shot down by Iran and saw four irreplaceable airframes (2x HC-130 Hercules; 2x Little Bird helos bombed by USAF B-1Bs to deny them to the enemy) but allowed Desperate Don to present the airlifted USAF F-15 Strike Eagle WSO as an American hero.

So there were holes in the remains of the destroyed Hercules - that doesn't mean they took Iranian fire; 1000 lb bombs produce a lotta shrapnel and the USAF claims they destroyed their four a/c not with satchel charges but with 40 such bombs dropped by two B-1Bs. ๐งต
Nor does the question posed by the #BBC merit the implications Aunty assigns it:
Why was the F-15E operating so deep inside Iran?
Cos that's where the targets are;
Iran would be stupid to put them on the coast. That the Yanks were after alleged U-235 stockpiles is An Inference Too Far.
Also, Forward Operating Base (FOB) suggests persistence. It was a FARP - a single-mission Fueling And Rearming Point.
