The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich
A beautifully written novel, about an important subject and historical 1950s moment in the Native American sovereignty and rights movement that Erdrich somewhat based on her grandfather's life and activism.
It weaves many character narratives together, but mostly follows Thomas (the character based on the grandpa) and Patrice (his young adult niece). They have different generational and gendered approaches to how they save their tribe and family.
Erdrich's imagery in many scenes will forever stick in my mind.
