@mlanger folks all over the world. The service gives you an address and a number. When the recipient registers it, then someone else gets your address. It’s pretty sweet

@mlanger postcrossing.com it’s free and if ya dig it they offer a 10€ membership to support them. I think you would have a blast because your sent map would be diverse if you were sending while on travel. You’d likely want to be in “travel mode” where you send now and receive later, when you are back home for a bit.
Warning: it’s addictive, and a whole lot of fun.
@User47 I need to check out those settings. I'm starting almost a full month of travel on Thursday, with multiple little trips on the East Coast and Pacific Northwest. I have a postcard that I was going to send from the VLA (in New Mexico), but now I'm thinking that I should wait until I start a trip and only send from the places I visit as I'm visiting them. I think the biggest challenge is going to be finding postcards to send. So few places sell them these days. (1/2)
Technically, the VLA postcards aren't postcards. They are note cards with envelopes. I'm trying to decide if I should send them as note cards, glue the cards closed so the location is still on the back and use them as postcards, or simply cut off the flap on the note card and send the photo side as a postcard. Right now I'm leaning toward the second option, which would make a beefier card. (2/2)

gio@User47 I used to send postcards to people when I was out on the road. I’d send one back to my home office staff and my family. I fell out of the practice but I think I’d like to pick it up again.
@stevegio @User47 Back when I was in my 20s I had a job where I traveled about 50% of the time. Every time I went to a new city, I would send my grandmother a postcard. When she died, we found a shoebox with all those postcards in it. I sure wish I'd kept them.
I think sending postcards is a great practice, especially if there are people on the other end who appreciate them.
@stevegio That's a beautiful idea. I think/hope folks appreciate the tangible thing in an increasingly digital age. And if they don't, I still enjoy trying to pick the best one to put a smile on their face. And the USPS I'm sure digs all the money I dump into stamps...
