My daily budget for my #TinyHome is 15000 Wh per day, I have enough #Solar panels to charge up that amount in my #Batteries in 1 day's peak #sun hour. That's enough to run my tiny #AC and #refrigerator for 24 hours (plus a full day's backup of an extra 15000), with change left over for a few appliance. While normal desktop usage can only run for a few hours with the left over charge, I've found that a #RaspberryPi 4b can run for like 40 hours on 1 day's battery after AC and Fridge. Perfect!
This should, assuming sized correctly, let me run a full home office with air conditioning every day indefinitely, without an electric bill. My calculations are it'll save me about $75 a month, plus I don't have to worry about hurricane power outages. Building the system myself for around $5000.
GCC and qtcreator work just fine on the #pi. I develop targeting OpenGL ES so this shouldn't be a problem. Web browsing is doable. I use freetube already as my youtube alternative, which is super light and easy to run on a small Pi. I use #KDE plasma as my desktop. Full computer I got for (originally) $75, small enough to be run entirely off of solar for a whole day.
@GabeMoralesVR this is great. I use the pi4b as my main machine too during the summer because it's just too hot to use my furnace of a desktop. So nice and silent unless I push it hard enough to initiate the add-on cooling fan
