Now suppose John Doe (JD) arrives at #Mastodon and he hates cats. He wants...

JD posts hateful content about cats and that makes me uncomfortable.

What should I do?

@FinchHaven That's a fair point - that it's not my job to fix JD.

But I do feel a responsibility to help the cats. In which case - ignoring JD allows him to go on with his hateful ways, unchecked.

The thing JD doesn't realise is that we ALL do this to him as soon as we find out who he is. He has no reach.

If we all do it, then JD continues to hurt cats. We just don't have to see it. It's great for us, but I still don't see how it helps the cats.
