My nerdy project this weekend was testing my new home backup battery. π€β‘
We live among trees: beautiful, but puts us in the highest risk zone for #wildfire. We often lose power and have frequent βplanned outages" so PG&E can trim trees and make proactive line improvements.
I appreciate the work, but it is frustrating β outages complicate our daily routine (kids!) and food spoils.
PG&E offers rebates on home backup batteries and generators for those in high-risk areas. π They only cover up to 1000Wh, so no whole-home batteries. π π€·ββοΈ
I got the Ecoflow River 2 Pro 768Wh and tested it with my refrigerator. My main goal is to keep our food from spoiling in an upcoming outage.
Good news: the fridge doesn't pull too much power! Only ~60 watts when the compressor is running, and 0 when it's not! Battery thinks it could sustain for ~9 hrs (1st image). When plugged into the wall, Ecoflow passes power through to the fridge (2nd). π
