Was the whole scenario in which Iran downed two jets and the U.S. went in to rescue them actually a failed U.S. attempt to establish some kind of forward base in Iran for a ground invasion?

We lost a weird number of very weird craft-types on that rescue mission.

Am I the last one to realize this?

Why would anyone send two C-130 aircraft for a ground rescue? Not to mention why would the pilot land them in mud? Also it was a Colonel weapons tech? I’ve never seen anyone higher than the rank of major in a cockpit. Something smells very off.
