Just to expand on Mr. Bouie's point here a little: racism makes you stupid, but in war, racism makes you ESPECIALLY stupid.

Racism leads you to overestimate yourself and underestimate your adversary, both of which will leave you flat-footed when your adversary manages to exceed your meager expectations of them. You won't know how to respond, because you'll be too lost trying to figure out how they did it in the first place.

Normally setting yourself up to be outperformed by your adversary is just bad. But in war, it gets you (and maybe also a bunch of your friends) killed

And the smartest man at Ford Motor Company couldn't figure out and reason WHY bombing, day and night, weeks on end would NOT defeat an enemy. They could not figure that out, even if they had bombed every school, hospital, water treatment plant and power plant. Doesnt' matter. Putin is find that out now too for similar lobotomizing reasons. "Little Russia" much?! Ask the 325,000 war dead.
