As someone who grew up in the Apollo era and lived and breathed all things space, I really want to be excited about this new thing.
But any time I think about it, I just hear Gil Scott-Heron saying "A rat done bit my sister Nell..."
@jack_daniel Don't worry, after this flight they will go back to doing fuck all again and you can just go back to remembering the 70's.

@jack_daniel

like so many 60s protest songwriters, activists, poets, gil scott-heron is vastly too relevant and topical still. depressing...

would love to just be able to enjoy his wit as something that happened but we're all better now, but no...

@jack_daniel I literally went out and bought the LP of him reading that the other day because I keep being reminded about it.
@jack_daniel ...and how I think I understand it now, having not quite "gotten it" most of my life. I think it was for a specific moment in time, and that moment came around again to supply me the missing context.
@jack_daniel Which is sad in its own right innit. Like a Halley's Comet of Shit.
@jack_daniel
TIL a poet named Gil Scott-Heron wrote "Whitey on the Moon", nominally about the first moon landing.

@puzzled I should have linked it, I forget that I'm a ancient. I wish it didn't ring so true today.
