Re-upping:

You need to internalize the idea that hypocrisy is not a meaningful accusation to the right. Of course they're hypocrites. That you are bound - by rules, standards, logic, human decency, some basic moral consistency, anything at all - and they are not? That is the right's conception of what power is and why they seek it: that they can exercise power, for its own sake, without constraint, and you cannot. It is its own justification.

Hypocrisy is the virtue-signaling of fascism.

@mhoye This is true, but it may underestimate the degree to which the accusations hurt them. Their feeling of power derives from"winning", and each and every accusation of hypocrisy is an argument they lose. They don't like that.

And it's not just losing an argument, it is losing the sense of superiority. The other side has the moral high ground, and this hurts them in the fee fees.

@mhoye If it didn't hurt them so much, they wouldn't have to desperately cope by telling themselves that no one else believes in things either.

They wouldn't have to cope by telling themselves that it's all just performative.
