The Hag
Merle Haggard. b. April 6, 1937. One of the cornerstones of country music and one of the primary architects of the "Bakersfield Sound." His music was a raw, stripped-down alternative to the polish of the "Nashville Sound" of the '60's. His music was uniquely authentic because he lived much of what he sang about. In and out of reform schools when young to serving time in San Quentin Prison for a botched burglary.
