Have to try to start playing tetris to pack my car with all the stuff we acquired in the last few months of travel (and decide if it's worth mailing anything to ourselves instead). And make decisions about weather and the long drive to Sask.

Given everything else that's happening, everyone needs a few more absurdly gorgeous night sky photos I took 2 weeks ago in the Tekapo Dark Sky Reserve, in the best night skies I've ever seen in my life (despite all the satellites. Sigh.)

@sundogplanets amazing photos. Thank you for sharing these.
@sundogplanets fabulous night sky photos, keep 'em coming πŸ™‚
@sundogplanets

@sundogplanets Glorious, thank yoi for sharing
@sundogplanets Any simple dark-sky activities for students? The 1st Nations school I work in, their facilities are ~ 5 km away from the nearest town. I have an old spotting scope …. They like to use land-based learning when they can.

@pinhman Apologies if you already know this, but there's a lot of great info from Wilfred Buck here: https://mfnerc.org/product/tipiskawi-kisik-night-sky-star-stories/

Also a lot of amateur astronomy clubs have beginner guides, I really like this one specifically designed for binoculars from my local group: https://regina.rasc.ca/content/beginners-observing-list

Mail. You will regret pitching stuff. Use cheaper surface mail.

True story- I was house-sitting for the parents while they vacationed in San Fransisco. A package arrived (mom had addressed to me for some reason). I wasn't expecting souvenirs or anything; was surprised to discover they mailed their dirty laundry!

@sundogplanets awesome. I have some pictures from Christmas on Mueller Hut not too far from there. I wish I remembered the settings to make my camera not take blurry pictures at night.
@sundogplanets
Beautiful pics, thanks! Want to go back.. Years ago we drove from Nelson to Fox Glacier then to Milford sound . The other side of Mt. Cook.
@sundogplanets stunning photos! Are the Magellanic Clouds much brighter to the naked eye than the Andromeda Galaxy here in the northern hemisphere?
@sundogplanets Love the Magellenic Clouds.πŸ’—
@sundogplanets Every time I see photos like this, the more I wanted to become an astrophotographer. Thank you for sharing! ❀
@sundogplanets Reminds me of the 1950s when we'd lie on our backs on the lawn at our suburban home and watch for "shooting stars". One night we saw Sputnik, which I think was the first object made by humans to orbit the earth.
@sundogplanets These are absolutely stunning!

@sundogplanets

Wow those are gorgeous photos! It has been way too long since I've seen the milky way, I really need to change that.
