National Press Club under fire for ‘disgraceful’ invitation to Israeli envoy

The National Press Club is under fire for hosting Israel’s ambassador after cancelling other speakers and remaining largely silent on the killing of journalists in Gaza.

Pearls and Irritations
@sister_ratched Yes they are. Platforming a propagandist representing a criminal regime that has murdered about 300 journalists and media workers. And they have the nerve to call themselves a 'Press Club'. Reprehensible.

@smitjo Indeed. I caught a bit of it and the journos were asking some very inconvenient questions.👏
@sister_ratched @smitjo Yes, I caught a few. Very pleasing to see.
@treleanor @sister_ratched @smitjo
Oh dear, your good example prompted me to watch. It is a long time since I shouted abuse at my TV.
Doubt that self justification speech won any favours. All I could think of was Gaza Genocide.
@RHW @sister_ratched @smitjo 💯 When I look at the Labor Party, that’s all I can think of too.
@sister_ratched - the more so, because it had previously uninvited a Palestinian journalist. The envoy of a rogue state that is committing war crimes everyday can quite legitimately be refused an invitation.

@sister_ratched Aren't they just, then again the main stream press in this country died out years ago. Today they possess no back bone because they work for RW owned and controlled outlets, rock their boat and you're out of a job and finished. Not even sure why they even have a journalistic code of ethics anymore, none even abide by it.

Key Principles of the Code

Truth and Accuracy: Journalists must report and interpret information honestly, striving for accuracy and fairness. They should disclose all essential facts and avoid suppressing relevant information.

Fairness and Impartiality: Journalists should provide a fair opportunity for reply and avoid placing unnecessary emphasis on personal characteristics such as race, gender, or religion.

Accountability: Journalists are accountable for their work and should correct errors promptly. They must not allow personal interests or external pressures to compromise their integrity.

Respect for Privacy: While public figures may have reduced privacy rights, journalists should respect the privacy of all individuals and avoid exploiting vulnerabilities.

Attribution and Confidentiality: Information should be attributed to its source, and confidentiality must be respected unless there are compelling reasons to disclose it.
