If it's of any comfort at all, he got less than a third (77.3m) of the US population eligible to vote (244m).

@DrALJONES I wish that were comforting. Sadly that “almost third” of the US population taking leave of their senses twice has implicitly caused a tsunami that reaches well beyond the American shores.

Yes.

Trump's essential demographic is lower-income, less-educated, older white men.

They had been abandoned by Dem leadership and were looking for a saviour. Gullible enough to believe a narcissistic psychopath when he said "I am your retribution".
